Industrial Archaeology Activities

Walks with Mr Jim Preston 2005

1. Aspects of Faversham industry.

Wednesday 8 June at 7 p.m., meeting outside Shepherd Neames office in Court Street.

2. A stroll along Whitstable seafront.

Wednesday 15 June at 7 p.m. meeting at the Tankerton end of the car park on the tank opposite Whitstable Harbour.

Following last years successful program of walks, Jim Preston, The Council For Kentish Archaeology's Industrial Archaeologist, is proposing a series of activities after Easter when we can hopefully look forward to better weather. The precise dates and times will be detailed later. Please register your interest in any of these by contacting Jim by e-mail on jimpreston@northkentbooks.fsnet.co.uk or telephone 01634 403106, preferably before Easter. All are welcome.

1. A visit to French Mill, Chilham. This is a virtually complete late nineteenth century water powered corn-mill. This visit would take place on a weekday afternoon and I need at least 20 people for Mid Kent Water to open up.

2. A brisk walk on Whitstable waterfront from the site of the copperas works to the boat yard. Most likely a Saturday afternoon (with the possibility of purchasing fish from the harbour).

3. A repeat of last years circular walk from Gravesend railway station via the river front to the Canal Basin and back.

Exact dates and times will be posted on this page at a later date.
